急！安装成功，但是进入不了x windows

登陆root帐户，startx，进入不了x windows，提示：

计算机系统：OptiPlex 160L,
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 Northwood processor
BIOS: dell computer corporation a00
主板：dell computer corp. 0G1548
主板芯片：Intel 82845G/GL/GV Brookdale Host_Hub Interface Bridge (A1-step)
内存：256M
主硬盘：ST380011a
显示卡：Intel（R）82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV graphics controller （与主板集成）
显存：64Mb
显示器：产品： DELA00C
        型号：DELL E153FP（15寸液晶显示器）
        产品ID：31475A53
        行频：30-63khz
        场频：56-76hz
（winxp下可以设置成1024*768 32位真彩色，实际为24位，suse10.0 安装时也是确定为24位，分辨率为1024×768）

由于刚刚接触linux，周围没有人可以请教。
请大侠们告知详细的解决步骤（具体每一步命令如何操作）
