I found I have installed both mozilla-firefox and mozilla-firefox-bin.
But from my bash history I can only find "emerge mozilla-firefox".

this value is 500 by default
so you can't count on your bash history
you should emerge genlop
then "genlop whatever-package"

how can you come up with such a question?
packages in gentoo are identified by category/packagename-version
only if all of the 3 parts are equal, then two packages are equal

i have checked for you
actually you can check yourself by emerge -tepv mozilla-firefox
if you have java USE flag enabled, then you will need sun-jdk, which in turn depend on virtual/libstdc++
and somehow, now in gentoo, the default implemention of virtual/libstdc++ is gcc3.
all you need to do is emerge sys-libs/libstdc++-v3
acevery already told you, why don't you at least try what you've been told?

I raise this question is because that I remember I only emerged mozilla-firefox not mozilla-firefox-bin. I can't remember when I emerged mozilla-firefox-bin. I mean, maybe,
could mozilla-firefox depend on mozilla-firefox-bin and installed it? Maybe my memory is not trustable.

but bash history can only record the last 500 command, you may have emerged mozilla-firefox-bin early enough that the command is already wiped out from bash history.

The first few emerge of firefox-mozilla are not successful because it needs gcc3.x.x and then I emerge gcc3.x.x then I emerge firefox-mozilla. It automatically emerged mozilla-firefox-bin. During that, I emerged screen and ccache.

I found the cause
you have enabled restrict-javascript USE flag
which will pull in noscript, which in turn depends on firefox-bin or firefox, and defaults to bin
noscript is a pdepend, p means post. ideally it should be installed after firefox. if that is the case, then there is no problem. since noscript's dependency(firefox) will be fulfilled at that time.
but somehow, noscript here is installed before firefox and when installing it, there is no firefox on your system. So it will install a firefox, and it installed the default one.

The solution here would be force pdepends to be installed after the installation of a package which pdepends them.
