Need to set up Chinese input

Hi,

I would like to set up Chinese input. I've tried SCIM and FCTIX. So far no luck.

Any help is appreciated.

can you start scim normally?or you just can't use the Ctrl+Shift to start the pinyin module?
have you ever set ./xprofile or ./xinitrc?
is there some thing with your locale settings?


BTW:what window manager do you use?

I run KDE 3.5.9.

Installed packages:

I found one problem is LC_CTYPE does not get re-set to zh_CN.

$ locale

SCIM daemon runs fine. I can start the config window from the panel. However, the default setting "Ctrl+Space" does not work at all.

maybe you can try setting LC_CTYPE to zh_CN.UTF-8

I set my locale information in /etc/env.d/02locale.
    I think the information you get while running scim in a console might help. Another important thing is your use setting(emerge --info and give out your use setting of app-i18n/scim seperately).
    And using KDE, app-i18n/skim is also a good choice, as it start automatically without any settings.
