I got a wired problem, I looked up some posts saying that the contents under /var/tmp and /tmp are temperary files that can be safely deleted. Therefore, I deleted them because they occupying lots of hard disk spaces. (Note: the deletion is done under gnome environment and current logged in user called "yzhang" is changed to root user through su command)

after the deletion, a lot of hard disk space is released, however, normal user can't start gnome anymore, whereas root user still can... I try to create a new user, but the new user can't start gnome either...

After execute startx command (this is the command that I used to start my gnome all the time), the screen stops forever with mouse displayed as a cross ("X") at the center of the screen. there's no any error message at all...

Anyone know what happen ???? how to solve this problem....

Thank you...

不要删除,启动x需要用/tmp.会在里面建立文件的。
重新建/tmp和/var/tmp

解决了。是/tmp文件的权限问题倒至普通用户无法访问/tmp。
