samba 3: full support for windows NT 4 domain like control(domain login, login scripts, ACL), partial Active Directory support
samba 2: partial NT 4 domain like control(ACL)

If you even can not read my English, you really get trouble with linux/fs

不过我有疑问，如果仅仅是这样的话那为什么不干脆取消掉2系列呢。

我想是因为2.x已经用了很久，在3.x被证明有一定稳定性之前，用户不见得愿意迁移到3.x

Yes, this approach is very common. E.g. Apache has 1.3.x and 2.0.x stable branches, FreeBSD has 4.x and 5.x, php has 4.3.x and 5.0.x. etc
