请教：我如何才能ping通windows的机器？难道非要在hosts文件里面加上去么？

是不是dns解析有问题啊可以看一下:

nslookup w2k 192.168.0.1 看能不能反回ip

我用nslookup it02(网内的一台计算机名) 192.168.0.1 显示如下

[root@it03 root]# nslookup it02 192.168.0.1

如果你没有安装samba的话，确实无法ping通，因为你是在内网，外网的DNS无效，你只能ping IP，如果ping 计算机名，会因为无法将主机名解析为ip而无法ping通。关键是将主机名解析为ip，在windows下是通过NetBios实现的，如果你安装了smb4k，你用它搜索一下，就会找到其他windows机器了

是不是因为samba没配置好呢？？？我在smbclinet上面到是可以看到其他计算机,也可以访问,就是ping 不通

不是，因为在linux下的网络连接（除了samba）是和samba无关的。
我的意识是说，如果你只是想搜索windows的机器，可以用samba，如果想ping 主机名，就要在host文件里加入主机名和ip的关联
