why the realplayer hear no voice?

I just installed the realplayer to my gentoo,and it can show the video and got no sound,i use the alsa as the default output.and the xmms can not play the selected mp3 too,it's said "no output plugin has been selected".but when i clicked the preferences of the xmms to select the output plugin , it's grey option which can not be selected. why?
but the mplayer and the audasious can play the mps files, it's seems so strange!!!

realplayer没有声音可能是alsa的mute没有去掉的原因吧，确定alsa正确配置了吗？启动alsasound进程了吗？

1.realplayer uses oss api to work, you should compile the kernel with the "oss emulator" option in sound/alsa section or something like this (sorry, I don't remember the exact name) which enable alsa to emulate the oss api.

2.It seems you need to install mp3 decode plugin of xmms to play mp3. but why not just use audasious? GTK1 is so ugly.
