how can I input Chinese in English version?

My Suse can display Chinese correctlly, but cannot input Chinese.
ctrl + space doesn't work.
and, I want to use English version, so I don't hope to resolve it by changing the region & language options.

Suse version is enterprise 9.1

well, just select all packages related to Chinese, this is the simplest way.
I don't know whether 9.1 can afford to input Chinese itself, at least 8.x cannot in my experience, just try it. I'm using English interface too, within 9.3 I can input Chinese.

我前两天装10的时候就是装的系统语言为英文，首先在安装系统的过程中，你必须安装中文字体的支持包括简体中文和繁体中文，之后进入系统，就可以正常使用scim输入中文了，
