2007-12-14 - Wiki Database Server Hacked
On Wednesday Dec 12th late in the evening (very late I might add) someone gained access to the wiki database server and deleted a large number of files, most notably the database files for a number of tables in the wiki databases.
First the good news: The database and all other files have ben restored from a backup made on Monday. Everything was up and running about 4 hours after the server was broken into.
The bad news: all edits from monday to wed were not in the backup and the bin log files in the mysql dir were also deleted by the hackers so they could not be re-run. Anyone who has made any changes, I apologize but you will have to re-do them.
I have spent the last day or so (when I've had free time) changing every password on the system and upgrading all the public facing apps on the server. As of yet I am not sure how they were able to get in, I will keep you posted if I am able to figure it out. |
