Reiser4 is a new "from scratch" version of the ReiserFS file system, developed by Namesys and sponsored by DARPA as well as Linspire.

Reiser4 still has not been merged into the mainline Linux kernel due to coding style issues and consequently is not supported on many Linux distributions; however, its predecessor has been much more widely adopted. Namesys has made inclusion into the mainline Linux kernel its first priority.

reiser4的代码体现的似乎是一种与主流格格不入的风格，Hans Reiser似乎在完成一项只属于自己的项目
很多东西内核有现成的，他不用，非得自己整一套
reiser4和传统Unix文件系统（包括ext3, reiserfs）相比，在设计上有很大不同，有些特征甚至可以放在VFS层次，而不是出现某个具体的文件系统里
加之reiser4还不足够稳定
所以它迟迟未能进入mainline，尽管它早已进入了mm source

不过也不要以为reiser4一无是处
