how to iconify application to system tray under gnome?

Like MSN messenger under windows, it can be hidden (iconify) to the right lower corner (system tray) of the screen and invoked when we need it...

how do we do this under gnome? I remember that the application such as Gaim can be docked like that.... but it seems that gnome doesn't support it any more....

gaim好像没有这个功能，至少我的1.5还没有。
倒是lumaqq，是会到那个tray里面的，还有stardict。

yes. you are right, we can add notificaiton area into the task bar,

stardict can be iconifed ..... not Gaim
