If you've never used overlay then make sure that you have

     PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage"

in your /etc/make.conf

and then

#mkdir /usr/local/portage

After that you can

#mkdir /usr/local/portage/x11-base
#mkdir /usr/local/portage/x11-base/xorg-x11
#cp /usr/portage/x11-base/xorg-x11/xorg-x11-6.8.2-r3.ebuild\
      /usr/local/portage/x11-base/xorg-x11

Then edit /usr/local/portage/x11-base/xorg-x11/xorg-x11-6.8.2-r3.ebuild with you favourite text editor and insert this text:

             patch_exclude 9914_all_6.8.2-mmx-gcc4.patch

in line 891
the previous line (line 890) should be like

            patch_exclude 9961_all_4.3.0-libGL-exec-shield  


finishing the edition, save the edited file and

#ebuild /usr/local/portage/x11-base/xorg-x11/xorg-x11-6.8.2-r3.ebuild digest

#emerge  xorg-x11


You will see the beautiful openoffice


PS: my snapshot is taken from staroffice, with the same BLACKICON problem to xorg-x11-6.8.2-r2.
